Free/busy link builder

Let people see when you're busy — and nothing else. Build a shareable free/busy link for Google Calendar, and get the exact steps for Outlook and Apple iCloud.

First, switch the calendar to public free/busy

  1. 1

In Google Calendar on the web, hover your calendar in the left sidebar → three dots → "Settings and sharing".

  2. 2

Under "Access permissions for events", tick "Make available to public".

  3. 3

In the dropdown right next to it, pick "See only free/busy (hide details)" — this is the crucial part.

  4. 4

Enter your calendar ID below to build your links. For your main calendar, that's simply your Gmail address.

Your main calendar's ID is your Gmail address. For secondary calendars, copy the "Calendar ID" from the same settings page (it ends in @group.calendar.google.com).

Your free/busy links

  • Shareable schedule page A browser view of your free/busy calendar — send it to anyone.
  • Embed code for a website Paste this HTML into any page to show your availability.
  • ICS feed for calendar apps Subscribe to it from Outlook, Apple Calendar or any other app.

These links only work once the calendar is public (steps above) — and because it's set to free/busy, viewers only ever see "Busy" blocks, never event titles.

Availability scattered across several calendars?

SyncThemCalendars merges your Google, Outlook and Apple iCloud calendars into one — with a privacy mode that copies events as plain "Busy" blocks. One calendar, one free/busy link, always complete.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly does a free/busy view show?

Just blocks of time marked Busy (and, depending on the app, Tentative or Away). No titles, no locations, no descriptions, no attendee names. It's enough for someone to propose a meeting time without seeing what your life looks like.

Can viewers ever see my event titles through these links?

Not through a correctly-configured link. Google's "See only free/busy (hide details)" and Outlook's "Can view when I'm busy" both strip everything except the busy times, at the source. Do double-check you picked the free/busy level and not "all details".

How up to date is the free/busy feed?

The browser views (Google's embed page, Outlook's HTML link) are close to live. The ICS feeds are refreshed by the subscribing app on its own schedule — typically every few hours — so a calendar app's copy can lag behind.

How do I revoke a link I've shared?

Google: untick "Make available to public" in the calendar's settings — all public links stop working. Outlook: click "Unpublish" under Settings → Calendar → "Shared calendars". Both take effect immediately.
