The traps hidden behind a successful connection

A calendar can appear connected while still failing operationally. Recurring meetings may lose exceptions or stop expanding after a limit. Events can display at the wrong local time when the source and destination interpret time-zone data differently. Import the file into Outlook

Treat the secret iCal address like a credential. Anyone who obtains it may be able to view the calendar feed, so don’t post it in a ticket, shared document, or public channel.

Add the feed in Outlook

In Outlook on the web:

  1. Open Calendar.
  2. Select Add calendar.
  3. Choose Subscribe from web.
  4. Paste the Google iCal URL.
  5. Name the calendar and save it.

In classic Outlook:

  1. Open File → Account Settings → Account Settings.

What the feed does and doesn’t do

The feed is read-only from Outlook. If someone changes an event in Outlook, that edit won’t write back to Google. The feed can also feel delayed because Outlook polls for updates rather than receiving every change as an immediate push.
